Accessible Environments

How often do you take for granted your ease of mobility? Imagine if you were confined to a wheelchair how limited your life could be.
|
All
those things which we take for granted become an enormous
challenge. Many people are not born with a disability but
become disabled through disease or accident and this
usually results in a dramatic change to one's lifestyle.
The home will usually need to be adapted to a greater or
lesser degree depending on the particular disability. We specialise in ACCESSIBLE DESIGN, whether for private individuals or organisations. As well as acting as expert witness in personal injury cases we also design houses, extensions or alterations which require a knowledge of accessibility requirements. The
Disability Discrimination
Act
gives
new rights to people who have a disability which makes it
difficult for them to carry out normal day to day
activities. Employers and people who provide goods and
services will have to take reasonable measures to ensure
that they do not discriminate against disabled people.
The Act is far reaching and ranges from making buildings
"accessible" to providing facilities for people with
sensory impairments ( for example providing large print
for partially sighted people. We can carry out ACCESS AUDITS to ensure that your premises comply with the new Act. We also regularly work for national charities including Chailey Heritage, Macintyre and Ability Uk for whom we have designed the Stackpole Centre, a cultural , learning and holiday centre for disabled people, their friends and family. |
