Conceived
originally as a holiday and learning centre for
people with
disabilities, their family and friends it has evolved into a
cultural centre unique in Europe where both disabled and able
bodied people can join in arts related courses or simply
enjoy the idyllic seaside environment. The range of
facilities includes a multi purpose fully
accessible theatre
which is used by amateur and professional companies from all
parts of the UK and
Europe. Thnal coere is also a fully equipped
art school as well as full residential and catering
facilities. In connection with research on design
for the disabled
in general and this project in particular Cedric Mitchell
has taken part in study tours to Russia and has attended
international seminars at the Remscheid Academy in Germany.
This project was awarded the
prestigious Prince of Wales
Award.
